In order for your toothbrush to take care of you, you need to take care of your toothbrush! Here are some tips to remember as you take care of your brush.

Your toothbrush needs to be replaced every 3-4 months–sooner if it appears frayed or worn. When you replace your toothbrush, make sure to get one with the ADA Seal of Acceptance. This ensures you are getting a quality product. The ADA Seal of Acceptance is granted by the American Dental Association to products that have passed rigorous testing for safety and effectiveness. Be sure to choose a soft-bristled toothbrush that is the right size and shape for your mouth.

When storing your toothbrush, be sure to keep it in open air and away from other toothbrushes. If you must store it next to other toothbrushes, make sure the heads are not touching. This could lead to cross-contamination of the toothbrushes and require them to be thrown away. Storing them in closed spaces encourages bacterial growth and should be avoided.

Never, EVER share your toothbrush, or use it for anything other than brushing your own teeth. This can lead to the spread of bacteria, infection, or disease and can be very dangerous to your oral health. If your toothbrush becomes contaminated, throw it away and take the opportunity to buy a new one.
