Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is it common, yet serious oral infection that arises within your gum tissue. Although it can progress over a period of many years, it should be treated as soon as the signs and symptoms begin to show themselves. One of the earliest signs of gum disease is known as gingivitis.

Gingivitis symptoms include sensitive gums that feature irregularities and abnormalities in their appearance. Your gums may appear swollen, excessively tender, flush with color, or may bleed frequently. Furthermore, blood spots can often be detected while cleaning your teeth and gums, especially when brushing and flossing. Additional symptoms include bad breath that continues to return, loose or wobbly teeth, and long teeth caused by a recession of your gums pulling away.
