Mary Jakobowski, CDPMA – Administrator
I am originally from Kentucky and a true UK Wildcat basketball fan! I started my dental career as a dental assistant while working my way through college. After graduating with a degree in music and theater, I continued in the dental field by day and performed by night. I lived in Atlanta for 10 years prior to moving to Hampton Roads. Eventually, I decided I was destined for a long-term career in dentistry. I have known Dr. Sweeney over 20 years and have worked with Dr. Utterback for 15 years. I assure you, you will never meet two finer dentists with higher integrity! While I am responsible for running the overall practice, I will also be the person who will present your treatment plan, along with options, and discuss your long-range goals. I will help you work within your budget and financial means, and make certain we maximize your insurance benefits. I have a beautiful adult daughter, Alex, who is a college student. We have 4 dogs and 1 cat, primarily because we rescue those that wander into our yard! I’m a former member of the Atlanta and current member of the Virginia Symphony Chorus and still perform in local theater groups when time permits.
Necole Brickhouse – Office Manager
I have lived in the Tidewater area all my life and I have worked here at Sweeney Utterback Dentistry for 11 years. I started in 2003 as a dental assistant for Dr. Parsons. When he retired in 2007, I became the front office manager. I graduated from Western Branch and received my Dental Assisting diploma from Everest College in 2002. I am responsible for running the front office and both doctors’ schedules. I will also be the last person you see on your way out. Our team here is very close and we do lots of things together outside the practice.
Scott and I have been together for 17 years and we have a beautiful 15-year-old daughter. We enjoy spending time with our family and doing outdoor activities together.
Jennifer “Jenny” Blythe – Finance Manager
I have been with Sweeney Utterback Dentistry for almost 10 years. The closeness of our team members and the patient relationships that we have established is what makes my job so fulfilling. I am here if you ever have a question regarding your account or have any questions regarding your insurance. In the meantime, I will be doing everything that it takes to ensure that all of your claims get processed in a timely manner.
When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family. I have 3 beautiful children: Cameron (4), Makayla (13) and Brandon (20). I cherish every single moment that I get to spend with them.
Erin McKinnon – Patient Advocate
I am a Virginia Beach native. I graduated from Tallwood High School and went on to study healthcare at Virginia School of Technology, graduating as a Certified Medical Assistant. Although I enjoyed working in nursing, I am ready to pursue other opportunities and anxious to learn new things in the world of Dentistry. It’s definitely a big change, but I know that with time and lots of training from the great team (family) at Sweeney Utterback Dentistry, I will be a pro in no time! I am the proud wife of my high school sweetheart Derrick, who is a firefighter in both Suffolk and Chesapeake, and also a trained chef! We have a beautiful and talented 12-year-old daughter named Hailey, as well as two puppies, Jake and Jaxon. When our busy schedules allow, we love spending time making new memories with our family and friends!
Diane Longworth, RDH – Dental Hygienist
I have been a Registered Dental Hygienist for over 35 years and (starting as a dental assistant out of high school) have been in the dental field for 40 years! I have been with Sweeney Utterback Dentistry since May of 2000. Born and raised on Long Island, New York, I received my dental hygiene degree from the State University of New York at Farmingdale. My husband Bob and I have been married for 34 1/2 years and we have two “four-legged children”: Sam (a 13 year old Maltese) and Ollie (a 10 year old mini Dachshund). We love to travel, and some of our more memorable trips have been to Australia (3 times …I have a lot of family there), Hawaii, the Galapagos Islands, and an Alaskan cruise. I love spending time with my family and I especially enjoy photography, taking pictures of all our adventures and my family when we are together…creating beautiful memories!
Melani Mize, RDH – Dental Hygienist
I am a Virginia Beach native. I graduated from Tallwood High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Hygiene from Old Dominion University. I started in dentistry when I was a senior in high school, doing administrative duties. I then transitioned into a clinical position assisting the dentist and hygienists. Now in my 15th year as a dental hygienist (11 at Sweeney Utterback Dentistry), I work part-time so I can do what I love most: be at home with my two young children, Sydney and Brennan, and my husband, Mike. I also love to travel, read, and do photography.
Maria Consolacion, RDH – Dental Hygienist
I graduated from the Centro Escolar University in Manila, Philippines with a Doctor of Dental Medicine. I moved to the United States in 1998. Because dentistry, like medicine, does not always recognize degrees from other countries, I was unable to practice here so I did the next best thing…I went back to school! I graduated from Old Dominion University with a BS degree in Dental Hygiene which I earned in 2002.
While in school, I also worked chairside as a dental assistant.
I have been married to my wonderful husband for 16 years and have two very pretty daughters, Elaine and Emily. We are big movie goers…so much so that we plan 3 months ahead of time what we’re going to watch!
Lisa Harrell – Dental Assistant for Dr. Utterback
My name is Lisa and I am the mother of two wonderful girls, ages 12 years and 9 months. I love spending time with my family! I have been in dentistry for 10 years and enjoy everything I do, from working with patients, to working with my dental family, always trying to improve ourselves for our patients. Through dentistry I have learned to use a CAD/CAM machine, which allows me to design and mill crowns in the office the same day. I have learned to work closely with denture patients to help them achieve their wants and needs for their dentures. I have had the opportunity to attend implant courses with Dr. Utterback and have become his main implant assistant. I have learned to follow the rules and regulations of OSHA, which allows our office to give patients the quality and care necessary for a great dental experience. I enjoy working with Dr. Bruce Utterback and his partner, Dr. Pia Sweeney, because together we have become a great team!
Mheanne Garcia – Dental Assistant for Dr. Sweeney
I graduated in the Philippines in 1989 and I am married to my husband Luis. I have three wonderful daughters: Alexis (19), Jasmine (16), and CJ (10). They keep me busy! My greatest love is being with family, whether it’s shopping or just spending time at home. I am a dental assistant and I feel very skilled in what I do. I’ve been in the dental field for 20 years. Along with my dental assisting experience, I have a background in the orthodontic field, and CEREC CAD/CAM technology. I truly enjoy working at Sweeney Utterback Dentistry. I not only enjoy assisting, but getting to know our patients and their families. I believe that we have an incredibly unique and caring team.
Donna Thompson – Dental Assistant for Dr. Sweeney
I received my dental training at the Virginia Institute of Technology and have been a dental assistant for 20 years, the last 5 with Sweeney Utterback Dentistry. I am a native of Norfolk, Virginia, and have been in the area most of my life, with the exception of a short stint in Sacramento, California from 2002-2006. When I married my husband, Mike, I became an immediate parent to his 5 children (1 son and 4 daughters)! We now have 1 gorgeous grandson (and will be happy to show pictures!) I also have two furry babies, my cats, Mama and Fella. I enjoy baking (there are often treats in the break room at the office!), collecting and trading recipes, traveling, and attending church any time the doors are open. I love praise, southern, and bluegrass gospel music.
Sam – Loyal, Loving Mascot!
My name is Sam and I have been the practice mascot and self-proclaimed “therapy dog” for over 12 years now! I am 13 years old. My job is to make people happy and put a smile on their face…which I think I do quite well! I love my toys (my favorites are a little alligator and a hedgehog) and one of my favorite things to do is “prance” around with a toy and show it to you. We have many patients who stop by even if they don’t have an appointment just to see ME! When I am home, I love to take long walks and run around my backyard with my brother Ollie. He’s a mini Dachshund with very short legs and a big appetite. No matter where I am, I always have a lot of love to share!
