Our staff members include:
|Mary – Certified Dental Practice Administrator
I am originally from KY and a true UK Wildcat basketball fan! I started my dental career as a dental assistant while working my way through college. After graduating with a degree in music and theater, I continued in the dental field by day and performed by night. I lived in Atlanta for 10 years prior to moving to Hampton Roads. Eventually, I decided I was destined for a long-term career in dentistry. I have known Dr. Sweeney for almost 20 years and have worked with Dr. Utterback over 10 years. I assure you, you will never meet 2 finer dentists! While I am responsible for running the overall practice, I will also be the person who will present your treatment plan, along with options and discuss your long-range goals. I will help you work within your budget and financial means, and make certain we maximize your insurance benefits.
I have a beautiful 15-year-old daughter, Alex. We have 3 dogs and 2 cats, primarily because we rescue those that wander in to our yard! I’m a former member of the Atlanta and Virginia Symphony Choruses and still perform in local theater groups when time permits.
|Brandon – Administrative Assistant
Hello, and thank you for visiting our website! My name is Brandon, and I have been with the practice for 4 years as an employee, but was a patient before that. I am what you could call the “go to” man of the practice. Wherever help is needed I am there, whether I am assisting one of the doctors, checking out patients, or changing light bulbs. Along with working in this wonderful practice, I am a full time student, studying Biology, at Virginia Wesleyan College, and will be graduating this May! My long-term future goal is to become an oral surgeon. Working in this office over the 4 years has given me the opportunity to learn and expand my knowledge of dentistry, as well as meet nice, caring people.
|Jenny – Finance Manager
I have been with Sweeney Utterback Dentistry for 6 years. The closeness of our staff members and the patient relationships that we have established is what makes my job so fulfilling. I am here if you ever have a question regarding your account or have any questions regarding your insurance. In the meantime I will be doing everything that it takes to insure that all of your claims get processed in a timely manner. However, when I’m not at work, I am spending time with my family. Richard and I have 3 beautiful children: Cameron, Makayla and Brandon. I cherish every moment that I get to spend with them.
|Necole Brickhouse – Office Manager
I have lived in the Tidewater area all my life and I have worked here at Sweeney Utterback Dentistry for 8-years. I started in 2003 as a dental assistant for Dr. Parsons. When he retired in 2007 I became the front office manager. I graduated from Western Branch and received my Dental assisting diploma from Everest Collage in 2002. I am responsible for running the front office and both doctors schedule. I will also be the last person you see on your way out. Our staff here are very close and we do lots of things together outside the practice.
Scott and I have been together for 14 years and we have a beautiful 12-year old daughter, we enjoy spending time with our family and doing outdoor activities.
|Donna – Dental Assistant
I received my dental training at the Virginia Institute of Technology and have been a dental assistant for 20 years, the last 5 with Sweeney Utterback Dentistry. I am a native of Norfolk, Virgina and have been in the area most of my life, with the exception of a short stint in Sacramento, California from 2002-2006. When I married my husband, Mike, I became an immediate parent to his 5 children (1 son and 4 daughters)! We now have 1 gorgeous grandson (and will be happy to show pictures!). I also have two furry babies (my cats, Mama and Fella). I enjoy baking, (there are often treats in the break room at the office!) collecting and trading recipes, traveling and attending church any time the doors are open. I love praise, southern and Bluegrass gospel music. I plan to start piano lessons in the spring to be able to play at least one song in my church (even if everyone has to wear earplugs).
|Lisa – Dental Assistant
I graduated from Tidewater Tech in 2004. I was hired directly out of school in 2004 By Dr. Utterback and have been with him ever since. I have been working with Dr. Utterback for almost 7 years and we work great together as a team. (Sometimes too great because I can read his mind!) I usually finish his sentences and always know what he needs next for all procedures. I enjoy working with Dr. Utterback and Dr. Sweeney. We are truly a wonderful office and I am grateful to work with two honest and caring Doctors! . I am married with a beautiful 8 year old daughter and I love spending most of my time with family and friends.
|Maria – Registered Dental Hygienist
I graduated from the Centro Escolar University in Manila, Philippines with a Doctor of Dental Medicine. I moved to the United States in 1998. Because dentistry, like medicine, does not always recognize degrees from other countries, I was unable to practice here so I did the next best thing…..I went back to school! I graduated from Old Dominion University with a BS degree in Dental Hygiene which I earned in 2002.
While in school, I also worked chairside as a dental assistant.
I have been married to my wonderful husband for 13 years and have two very pretty daughters. We are big movie goers…so much so that we plan 3 months ahead of time what we’re going to watch!
|Melani – Registered Dental Hygienist
I am a Virginia Beach native. I graduated from Tallwood High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Hygiene from Old Dominion University. I started in dentistry when I was a senior in high school doing administrative duties then transitioned into a clinical position assisting the dentist and hygienists. Now in my 12th year as a dental hygienist (6 at ADC), I work part-time so I can do what I love most; be home with my two young children, Sydney and Brennan, and my husband, Mike. I also love to travel, read, and do photography.
|Diane –Registered Dental Hygienist
I have been a Registered Dental Hygienist for 32 years and (starting as a dental assistant) have been in the dental field for 37 years. I have been with Sweeney Utterback Dentistry since May of 2000.. Born and raised on Long Island , NY I received my dental hygiene degree from the State University of New York at Farmingdale. I have been married for 31 years to my husband Bob, and have 2 “four-legged” children : Sam (a 9 year old Maltese) and Ollie (a 6 year old Miniature Dachshund .
|Sam – Mascot
My name is Sam. I have been the practice mascot and self proclaimed little “therapy dog” for almost 9 years. I was rescued by 2 wonderful patients, Nikki and Kent Kilby, when I was 9 months old. I love to come to work every day. My job is to make people happy and put a smile on everyone’s face….which I think I do very well. I love my toys and one of my favorite things to do is to “prance” around with a toy to show you!! We have many patients who stop by even if they don’t have appointments just to say hello and see ME !! I always have lots of love to share !
