Mary – Certified Dental Practice Administrator
I am originally from Kentucky and a true UK Wildcat basketball fan! I started my dental career as a dental assistant while working my way through college. After graduating with a degree in music and theater, I continued in the dental field by day and performed by night ! I lived in Atlanta for 10 years prior to moving to Hampton Roads, where I was the Regional manager for a large dental group with 6 separate practice locations, 28 dentists and specialists, and over 75 staff members. While I am responsible for running the overall practice, I will also be the person who will present your treatment plan, along with options, and discuss your long-range goals. I will help you work within your budget and financial means, and make certain we maximize your insurance benefits as well as determining the length of time your treatment will take based on YOUR needs. I have a beautiful adult daughter, Alex, who is my pride and joy along with my 3 fur baby children (dogs) and 1 Grand dog! I’m a former member of the Atlanta and Virginia Symphony Chorus and still perform in local theater groups when time permits.
Brandon – Administrative Assistant
Hello, and thank you for visiting our website! My name is Brandon, and I have been with the practice for 4 years as an employee, but was a patient before that. I am what you could call the “go to” man of the practice. Wherever help is needed I am there, whether I am assisting one of the doctors, checking out patients, or changing light bulbs. Along with working in this wonderful practice, I am a full time student, studying Biology, at Virginia Wesleyan College, and will be graduating this May! My long-term future goal is to become an oral surgeon. Working in this office over the 4 years has given me the opportunity to learn and expand my knowledge of dentistry, as well as meet nice, caring people.
Jenny – Finance Manager
I have been with Sweeney Utterback Dentistry for 6 years. The closeness of our staff members and the patient relationships that we have established is what makes my job so fulfilling. I am here if you ever have a question regarding your account or have any questions regarding your insurance. In the meantime I will be doing everything that it takes to insure that all of your claims get processed in a timely manner. However, when I’m not at work, I am spending time with my family. I have 3 beautiful children: Cameron, Makayla and Brandon. I cherish every moment that I get to spend with them.
Necole Brickhouse – Office Manager
I have lived in the Tidewater area all my life and I have worked here at Sweeney Utterback Dentistry for over 15 years. I started as a dental assistant for Dr. Parsons. When he retired in 2007 I became the front office manager. I graduated from Western Branch and received my Dental assisting diploma from Everest Collage in 2002. I am responsible for running the front office and both doctors schedule. I will also be the last person you see on your way out. Our staff here are very close and we do lots of things together outside the practice.
I have a beautiful daughter and we enjoy spending time with our family and doing outdoor activities together.
Donna – Dental Assistant
I received my dental training at the Virginia Institute of Technology and have been a dental assistant for 20 years, the last 5 with Sweeney Utterback Dentistry. I am a native of Norfolk, Virgina and have been in the area most of my life, with the exception of a short stint in Sacramento, California from 2002-2006. When I married my husband, Mike, I became an immediate parent to his 5 children (1 son and 4 daughters)! We now have 1 gorgeous grandson (and will be happy to show pictures!). I also have two furry babies (my cats, Mama and Fella). I enjoy baking, (there are often treats in the break room at the office!) collecting and trading recipes, traveling and attending church any time the doors are open. I love praise, southern and Bluegrass gospel music. I plan to start piano lessons in the spring to be able to play at least one song in my church (even if everyone has to wear earplugs).
Lisa – Dental Assistant
I graduated from Tidewater Tech in 2004. I was hired directly out of school by Dr. Utterback. I have been with him ever since, we work great together as a team. (Sometimes too great because I can read his mind!) I usually finish his sentences and always know what he needs next for all procedures. I enjoy working with Dr. Utterback and Dr. Sweeney. We are truly a wonderful office and I am grateful to work with two honest and caring Doctors! . I love spending most of my time with family and friends.
Maria – Registered Dental Hygienist
I graduated from the Centro Escolar University in Manila, Philippines with a Doctor of Dental Medicine. I moved to the United States in 1998. Because dentistry, like medicine, does not always recognize degrees from other countries, I was unable to practice here so I did the next best thing…..I went back to school! I graduated from Old Dominion University with a BS degree in Dental Hygiene which I earned in 2002.
While in school, I also worked chairside as a dental assistant.
I have been married to my wonderful husband for over 20 years and have two very pretty daughters. We are big movie goers…so much so that we plan 3 months ahead of time what we’re going to watch!
Melani – Registered Dental Hygienist
I am a Virginia Beach native. I graduated from Tallwood High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Hygiene from Old Dominion University. I started in dentistry when I was a senior in high school doing administrative duties then transitioned into a clinical position assisting the dentist and hygienists. Now in my 12th year as a dental hygienist (6 at ADC), I work part-time so I can do what I love most; be home with my two young children, Sydney and Brennan, and my husband, Mike. I also love to travel, read, and do photography.
Diane –Registered Dental Hygienist
I have been a Registered Dental Hygienist for 39 years and (starting as a dental assistant) have been in the dental field for over 40 years. I have been with Sweeney Utterback Dentistry since May of 2000.. Born and raised on Long Island , NY I received my dental hygiene degree from the State University of New York at Farmingdale. I have been married for 38 years to my husband Bob, and have 1 “four-legged” child: Ollie, a 13 year old Miniature Dachshund. who is spoiled rotten.
Sam – Mascot
SAMSON UTTERBACK LONGWORTH AKA SAMMY DOG – July 10,2001 – January 30,2017
Although our sweet Sammy dog is no longer with us, we still carry him very close in our hearts. He was not ONLY a therapy dog here at Sweeney Utterback Dentistry. He also thought he was our boss and yes he was very bossy. Sammy was with us for 15 short years. He loved every single minute of working here with us. Our patients loved Sammy so much they would stop by our office just to bring him treats or just to take him out for a quick walk (even if they didn’t have an appointment). He was known and loved by so many. He is truly missed and has taken a piece of us with him. We will always remember our little Sammy dog and all the joy he brought to our office. Every time the song “Over the rainbow” is played Sammy- makes us think of him!!!!
